Walking for The Prize

I have been training to walk in the USA Fit Half Marathon(13.1 Miles) on January 29, 2012. Saturdays are my distance days and last Saturday, I walked 11.25 miles. At the end of my distance I was tired, but felt good. I knew that if I could walk 11 miles, I could walk 13.1. I did notice however that my left shoulder was a little stiff the day after the walk. After pondering what could have caused this, I decided it may have been my posture (the way I was holding arms) and the impact of an old injury from over 25 years ago. It flares ups sometimes with overexertion. It was cold out on Saturday morning, in the 40s, but I had to prepare to walk in the cold, even if "old arthritis" showed up! This is why it is important to train for a race to be prepared for race day.

When I was walking on Saturday, I thought about many things during the 11 miles. I quoted Scripture out loud, thought of my family, thought about my Sunday ABF class lesson, thought of what it was like for early settlers who walked every where and 1 Corinthians 9:24-25 came to my mind. This is the New Living Translation (NLT):
24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.

In life we are in constant training. Every now and then something will flare up in our lives that may cause us pain, slow us down...and get our attention. There are times when we allow these things to consume our thoughts and actions and we may get side tracked. As Christians we must be disciplined in studying God's word and in prayer. His word is the "icy hot" for our spiritual aches and pains.
His word is the lamp unto our feet and light unto our path. He leads us and guides us to get back on track and re-focus our attention on the prize.

I am not walking the marathon for the prize that will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. I am sure I will cross the finish line long after they do. I am walking for myself and the satisfaction of knowing that I trusted God to give me the perseverance and endurance to finish.

I am walking in this race called life, to please God in all that I do because I know that in the end I will receive a prize in eternity with Him that will never fade away!

Hope to see you at the finish line!

Talulah

How Will You Use The Extra Day!

We are into 2012 and I am excited about the possibilities of a new year. We have an extra day in 2012 because it is a Leap Year. I have already asked myself, will an extra day matter? How will I use the time that I have to glorify Christ? I have already evaluated myself and asked "how can I be better in this new year"?

I have been retired from my life long career for 15 months to begin another. It really does not seem as though its been that long. I am sure its because I am actively doing what I know that God desires for me in this season of my life. I have truly been blessed in my relationship with Christ, my family, the very special man in my life, my friends and colleagues. I have been blessed to be on staff part-time at Sugar Creek Baptist Church and to be able to use my teaching gift as a teacher for Chosen Vessels Adult Bible Fellowship class (ABF). I have also been a part of Truth Keepers ABF class. The relationships that I have developed in my ABF classes and the lessons that I am learning from their testimonies have been invaluable. 2011 was a great year, not without challenges , but still great!

My special man,Tony and I attended Fallbrook Church New Year's Eve service and Pastor Pender's message about how to be successful in the new year , still resonates with me.

He spoke of (3) elements for our success:
1. Must have a certified relationship with Christ
2. Must be certified as free from slavery (spiritual freedom)
3. Must follow and obey our certified document to live by..the Bible

In Christ we have everything that we need for success in life.
So will 2012 matter to you??? Will the extra day make a difference???

I am determined that 2012 will matter! Stay tuned for how God moves in my life this year and I hope to witness His movement in your life as well.

Blessings,

Talulah Ruger

God With Us

"Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name 'Immanuel,' which is translated, 'God with us.' "
— Matthew 1:23

I am looking forward to spending time with my family and friends this Christmas weekend. I look forward to the smells of good food cooking. I expect my home to be filled on Christmas Day with family and friends for dinner, laughter, games and I am sure at least (1) NBA basketball game. Have you considered why we are able to enjoy all the goods things in life? Have you considered why we are able to survive the bad things that we experience in life? It is because of God sending his son Jesus Christ. It is because our hope is in Jesus Christ. When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, God was with us. When he died on the cross, God is in us who accept Christ as Savior and that is good news!!

As you prepare your meals and get ready for family and other activities on Christmas....remember to keep Jesus Christ first in your celebration. Remember to give the gift of love and kindness to someone that you do not know. It is easy for us to love our relatives and people who love us back! The challenge comes when we are asked to love those that the world views as unlovable.

Merry Christmas!!!!

I am grateful that God allowed me to be born on Veterans Day. It will always be my reminder to remember the contributions of our military. Remember to keep them and their families in your prayers!

I had a great birthday weekend with my two children,daughter-in-law, three grandchildren and the man in my life, Tony (the big T in TNT). We now have a new addition to our family. My daughter Erica has a dog and his name is Seymour. Yes, I have a grand-dog!
Date Night With Kirk Frankin "Power To End Stroke"

Tony and I had our date night at Kirk Franklin's Fearless Fall Tour with BET Sunday Best winner Amber Bullock, Isaac Carree, Deon Kipping and Jason Nelson. Kirk asked if we would FB or tweet what we thought of the concert. It was great..It started 30 minutes late due to technical difficulty, but Kirk did not finish until MN. He said that he promised we would get our money's worth and we did. Kirk's backup female singers are some singing women....they were as strong at the beginning as they were at the end. We had church!!! If you are in San Antonio and you are planning to attend...you are in for a treat! He will be there November 5, 2011.

Kirk has teamed up with the American Heart Association(AHA) to use his music and the audience it draws to reach out to a community particularly hard-hit by stroke and heart disease: African Americans. The AHA notes that blacks have twice the risk for first-time strokes and a higher death rate from strokes, when compared to whites. Overall, the risk of strokes for blacks is four times higher than that for whites.

Thanks Kirk for using this as a forum to get the word out about Heart Disease and Stroke. Thanks Tony for a great Date Night!

What is a Biblical World View?

From Genesis to Revelation the Bible is the Christian's Biblical World view document.

The Christian worldview - God is the God of the Bible and the Bible accurately relays God's Truth.

There are actually five questions that a Biblical worldview needs to answer:
1. Who is God?
2. Who are we?
3. What went wrong?
4. What is the solution?
5. How does all of this apply to the issues I am facing?

Please visit Sugar Creek Baptist Church website for Pastor Hartman's series on Building a Biblical Worldview.
A Time To Slow Down

Three weeks ago, I broke one of my toes. I wish that I could say that I was doing something like rock climbing or something adventurous, but I broke it in my walk in closet at home. It was one of those unusual accidents that when it happens you wonder, how it could have happened. The amazing thing about the day that I broke my toe was that I had just walked 6 miles early that morning. I was really pumped to walk 6 miles (3-4 times) the following week. By 430 p.m. the same day I was in pain and on my way to the emergency room. It is so amazing how quickly our status can change.

After three weeks of wearing a shoe on my left foot and a fracture boot on my right foot, I was able to put my left foot in a shoe for the first time. It was not a high fashion shoe, but a slipper styled sandal and I was happy to wear it.

During this time of healing, I have had to slow down from my normal level of activity, however, I believe that God has a message for us in everything that we experience in life. Through this experience I am reminded that there is a time that we just need to slow down and listen for the quiet voice of God. In the hustle and bustle of work and other things we sometimes miss God's voice because we are so busy.

In my Adult Bible Fellowship class at church we are studying the book of Genesis. Every week as I am preparing to teach the lesson, God allows me to see a principle that I can apply to my everyday life. Today we studied Noah and the Flood. One of the great principles that I see in Noah's life is obedience. Wow, it took Noah 120 years to build the ark. God gave him specific instructions and he followed those instructions.

Father, I want to exhibit the character of Noah. I want to be obedient to your will and your way for my life. When the task seems too great and even if I have to stand alone, I will proclaim who you are and I will trust in you Lord.

Has God slowed you down lately??? Listen for His voice and hear what He is saying to you.

"Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).

Blessings, Talulah Ruger
